Buying in China: what you need to know
The Chinese diesel generator market consists of engine makers and genset assemblers. Engines are made by Weichai, Yuchai, Shangchai, and Cummins at joint ventures in China (Chongqing, Xiangyang); Perkins engines are also widely fitted to Chinese gensets. Genset assemblers are based in Fujian (Fuzhou), Jiangsu, Shandong and Guangzhou: they pair the engine with an alternator (Stamford, Leroy-Somer, Chinese alternators), a controller, a canopy and a switchboard. Buying a diesel generator from China pays off when you understand what a specific set is built from and who will service its engine in your region.
Power is stated in kVA and kW: at a power factor of 0.8, kW = kVA × 0.8. It is important to distinguish standby power from prime power: standby is higher but rated for limited running time. Selection starts with the load: starting currents of motors, pumps and compressors, non-linear loads (VFDs, UPS), altitude and air temperature all affect the power required.
The main differences between factories are the actual engine and alternator, not the labels on the canopy. There are sets with an overstated rating, an alternator with undersized windings, or re-badged engines. Good factories run load tests on a test bench and provide a report. For Uzbekistan’s hot climate, a cooling system designed for high ambient temperatures is important. For Kazakhstan and northern regions it is the opposite — engine and battery heaters for cold starts.
Common mistakes are choosing a genset “by power” without accounting for motor starts and non-linear loads, not ordering an ATS and coordinating it with the existing switchboard, and taking an open set where a sound-attenuated canopy or container is needed. What is the difference between kVA and kW?
kVA is apparent power, kW is active power. At the standard power factor of 0.8, a 100 kVA set delivers 80 kW. Compare offers in the same units and for the same mode (standby or prime).
Weichai, Yuchai or Cummins — which to choose?
All three are widely used in Chinese gensets. The choice depends on power, budget and the availability of service and parts in your region. We offer options with different engines in the same configuration.
How can I be sure the engine is not re-badged?
We check the engine model and serial number against the engine maker’s documents, inspect at the factory and attend the load test.
Can several gensets run in parallel?

How long does it take to get a diesel power plant?
Series models — depending on availability, usually 15–45 days. Containerised and non-standard solutions follow the factory schedule, fixed in the contract. Road delivery to Tashkent takes 12–20 days.
