Buying in China: what you need to know

China produces most of the world’s lithium-ion cells. The key LiFePO4 makers are CATL (Ningde, Fujian province), BYD (Shenzhen), EVE (Huizhou, Guangdong), as well as CALB, REPT, Gotion and Hithium. Hundreds of companies assemble battery modules, rack batteries and containerised systems, and most of them do not make cells themselves but buy them from these manufacturers.

Hence the main question when buying batteries from China — which cells are inside. The market has grade A cells (new, sorted at the factory), grade B cells (with deviations in capacity or resistance) and cells refurbished after use. The battery looks the same from outside; the difference is only visible from documents, cell markings and testing. Poorly matched cells in one pack quickly go out of balance and shorten the system’s life. The cycle count stated in a catalogue applies to the manufacturer’s cells under specific conditions, not to any battery that supposedly contains them.

The second key component is the battery management system (BMS) and its compatibility with the inverter. 48 V rack batteries must support your inverter’s communication protocol; high-voltage systems and containerised BESS must have fire suppression, climate control and monitoring software. Factories differ here more than in cell price. For a hot climate we also look at operating temperature and cooling: lithium batteries working for long periods in an overheated room lose life faster.

What we do differently: we ask the assembler for data on the cell supplier, check markings and QR codes, test samples for capacity and internal resistance, and check BMS compatibility with the inverter. An energy storage supplier for Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan must also pack the system correctly as dangerous goods — without that, neither the carrier nor customs will accept the cargo.

What we supply

LiFePO4 cells

Prismatic cells from CATL, EVE, BYD, CALB, REPT, Hithium from tens to hundreds of Ah — for building your own batteries.

48 V rack batteries

5–15 kWh modules for residential and commercial solar systems — Pylontech, Dyness and others; compatible with Deye, Growatt and other inverters.

High-voltage ESS

Cabinet systems for businesses: battery racks, high-voltage BMS, hybrid inverters, monitoring systems.

Containerised BESS

Energy storage systems in containers with climate control, fire suppression and PCS — for power plants and industry.

UPS

Online UPS for server rooms, healthcare and production, modular UPS and battery cabinets for them.

Lead-acid and gel batteries

AGM and gel batteries from Narada, Leoch, Shoto for UPS, telecoms and backup power.

How we check this particular product

Cell origin
We request data on the cell supplier and grade, check markings and QR codes on the cells, and compare them with the stated manufacturer.
Capacity and resistance
We spot-test samples: discharge to rated capacity, internal resistance, cell voltage spread within a module.
BMS and compatibility
We check BMS protection functions, balancing and the communication protocol with your inverter (CAN, RS485) before shipping.
System safety
For cabinets and containers we check fire suppression, ventilation, climate control and emergency shutdown.
Transport documents
We check for a UN38.3 test report, a safety data sheet (MSDS) and correct package marking.

What to send for an accurate quote

  • Purpose: backup, solar plant, peak shaving, off-grid power
  • Required energy (kWh) and power (kW)
  • Inverter model or system voltage
  • Installation conditions: indoors, outdoors, temperature
  • Quantity and timeline
  • Delivery city

Shipping: what to keep in mind

Class 9 dangerous goods

Lithium-ion batteries are transported as dangerous goods (UN3480/UN3481). A UN38.3 report, MSDS, marking and certified packaging are required.

Air — with restrictions

Air freight of lithium batteries as cargo is strictly limited by state of charge and packaging, so main batches go by truck or rail.

Heavy cargo

Batteries and containerised systems are heavy: we calculate the load by weight, and ship containerised BESS as oversized or container cargo.

Documents and certificates

Uzbekistan

O‘zstandart certificate of conformity for items subject to mandatory certification. We check by HS code.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia (EAEU)

Requirements depend on the system configuration: UPS and systems with power electronics fall under TR CU 004/2011 and 020/2011. We check by the HS code of each item.

Dangerous goods

A UN38.3 report, MSDS safety data sheet and dangerous goods declaration for the carrier — mandatory for any country.

Requirements depend on the exact HS code. We check them before purchase and include the cost of certification in the quote.

Questions about this category

How do you check that a battery has CATL or EVE cells?

We ask the assembler for cell purchase documents, check the cell markings and QR codes, and test samples for capacity and resistance. If the data do not match, we offer another supplier.

What are grade A and grade B cells?

Grade A cells are new cells that passed factory sorting by parameters. Grade B cells have deviations and sell for less. We fix the cell grade and manufacturer in the specification.

Is the battery compatible with my inverter?

We check the manufacturer’s compatibility list and the BMS communication protocol. Send us your inverter model and we will select batteries that work with it.

Can batteries be shipped by air?

Only with restrictions on state of charge, packaging and documents. For commercial batches, truck or rail is usually cheaper and more reliable.

Do you supply containerised energy storage systems?

Yes. We size BESS by power and energy capacity and check the system configuration, fire suppression and monitoring software. Production times follow the factory schedule and are fixed in the contract.

How long do rack batteries take?

Standard models depend on availability, usually 15–45 days. Delivery to Tashkent by truck takes 12–20 days, by rail 18–30 days.

Is there a warranty on lithium batteries?

We fix the warranty period and cycle count in the contract with the factory. For systems with monitoring, the warranty is usually tied to BMS data.

Send us a request and we will calculate it for your case

We reply within an hour during business hours. An offer with factory prices usually takes 3–5 business days.

By clicking “Send” you agree to the processing of your data to answer the request. We do not share it with third parties.
