Transformers, packaged substations and switchgear from China
We supply power transformers, packaged substations and switchgear built for CIS grids and standards. We check the vector group, voltages and test reports.
Buying in China: what you need to know
China has large power equipment manufacturers — TBEA, China XD, Chint — and hundreds of mid-sized factories in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong and Hebei. Oil-immersed distribution transformers are made in the S11, S13 and higher series, cast-resin dry-type transformers in the SCB10, SCB11 and other series. Chinese grids, like those in the CIS, run at 50 Hz with 10 kV and 0.4 kV distribution voltages, so buying a transformer from China for Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan is technically feasible — provided the design is checked.
The differences are in the details. CIS grids often use 6 kV and 35 kV, and require specific winding connections and vector groups (Yyn0, Dyn11), a defined range and number of off-circuit tap changer steps, and a climatic version for heat and frost. For packaged substations and switchgear, it is important to match the solutions familiar to the utilities operating them: metering, relay protection, interlocks. Chinese KYN28 and XGN switchgear differ in design from the KSO and KRU cubicles common in the CIS, which needs to be agreed with the designer and the grid company.
Factory tiers differ in winding material (copper or aluminium), electrical steel grade, no-load and load losses, and the quality of the oil and tank. Unscrupulous suppliers reduce the winding cross-section or use lower-grade steel — this shows in the losses in the test report and in heating under load. That is why we choose transformer suppliers on documents and tests, not only on price per kVA.
Common mistakes are ordering a transformer by rating without specifying the vector group and impedance voltage, receiving equipment with untranslated documentation and no test reports, and ignoring the grid company’s connection requirements. We align the technical specification with your design, check the routine test reports and ship the equipment to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries.

How we check this particular product
- Technical specification
- We check rating, voltages, connection and vector group, impedance voltage, tap changer and climatic version against your design.
- Test reports
- We check the routine test reports: no-load and load losses, insulation resistance, turns ratio.
- Materials
- We check the winding material, electrical steel grade, and oil and tank quality.
- Substation and switchgear configuration
- We check the single-line diagram, apparatus, relay protection, metering and interlocks against the design.
- Documents in Russian
- We require data sheets, diagrams and manuals in Russian, or with a translation for the operating organisation.
What to send for an accurate quote
- Rating (kVA) and voltages (HV/LV)
- Winding connection and vector group, impedance voltage
- Type: oil-immersed or dry-type, installation (indoor, outdoor)
- For substations and switchgear — a single-line diagram or design
- Requirements of the grid company or designer
- Delivery city and timeline
Shipping: what to keep in mind
Heavy and oversized cargo
Large transformers and packaged substations travel on flatbeds; we check dimensions and lifting points in advance.
Shock protection
Transformers are secured to the vehicle, and if needed shock recorders are fitted for the journey.
Oil and insulation
Oil-immersed transformers travel filled or with the oil supplied separately — we agree the option with the factory.
Documents and certificates
Uzbekistan
An O‘zstandart certificate of conformity — for equipment on the mandatory certification list; plus the grid company’s connection requirements. We check by HS code.
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia (EAEU)
Low-voltage equipment up to 1000 V — TR CU 004/2011 and 020/2011. For equipment above 1000 V, we determine requirements separately by HS code.
For all countries
Factory test reports, data sheets, diagrams and manuals — without them, operating organisations will not accept the equipment.
Requirements depend on the exact HS code. We check them before purchase and include the cost of certification in the quote.
HS codes and duty rates
| HS code | Product | EAEU CCT rate (KZ, KG, RU) | Calculate for your country |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8504 21 000 0 | Liquid dielectric transformers up to 650 kVA | 7.5% | Calculate |
| 8504 22 100 0 | Liquid dielectric transformers, 650 to 1600 kVA | 8% | Calculate |
| 8504 33 000 9 | Dry-type transformers, 16 to 500 kVA | 7.5% | Calculate |
| 8504 34 000 0 | Dry-type transformers over 500 kVA | 9% | Calculate |
| 8537 20 920 0 | Switchgear and panels for 1 to 72.5 kV | 0% | Calculate |
| 8535 21 000 0 | Circuit breakers above 1000 V (up to 72.5 kV) | 10% | Calculate |
| 8535 40 000 0 | Surge arresters above 1000 V | 11% | Calculate |
EAEU rates are taken from the official EAEU Common Customs Tariff (EEC Council Decision No. 80), excluding preferences and temporary exemptions. For Uzbekistan and other countries the calculator uses the rate of the selected country. The final code depends on the exact product description.
Questions about this category
Is a Chinese transformer suitable for Uzbekistan’s grid?
Yes, if it is built for the required voltages, vector group and climatic version. The 50 Hz frequency is the same. We align the technical specification with your design before ordering.
Oil-immersed or dry-type — which to choose?
Oil-immersed is cheaper and suits outdoor installation and packaged substations. Dry-type is chosen for installation inside buildings where fire safety matters. The final choice depends on the design and requirements.
Can I order a 6 kV or 35 kV transformer?
Yes, Chinese factories make transformers for these voltages to order. Voltages and tap changer settings are fixed in the technical specification and the contract.
Do you supply turnkey packaged substations?
Yes, kiosk and modular substations to your single-line diagram, with transformer, HV and 0.4 kV switchgear and metering. The configuration is agreed with the designer.
How can transformer quality be checked?
From the routine test reports: losses, impedance voltage, insulation resistance. We compare them with the technical specification and, if needed, attend the tests at the factory.
How long do transformers and substations take to make?
According to the factory schedule, which we fix in the contract; series transformers in stock usually take 15–45 days. Road delivery to Tashkent takes 12–20 days, rail 18–30 days.
What documents come with the equipment?
Data sheets, test reports, diagrams and manuals, in Russian if needed. Certification requirements are determined by the HS code in the importing country.
