Buying in China: what you need to know
Chinese medical technology has become prominent on the world market in recent years. Major manufacturers — Mindray, Sonoscape, Edan, Comen — are based in Shenzhen, which has become China’s main centre for medical electronics. Consumables and high-volume medical devices are made in many provinces, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong. So you can buy medical equipment from China in different price segments — from expert-class systems to basic equipment for small clinics.
The key feature of medical equipment is mandatory registration of medical devices in every importing country. Without registration a device cannot legally be sold or used in a clinic, and the procedure and document requirements differ between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. So the first thing we check is whether the specific model is already registered in your country, who the registration holder is, and whether the supply can go through them.
When choosing equipment, compare models by clinical tasks: the probes and applications of an ultrasound system, monitoring parameters, throughput and test menu of analysers, and the cost of reagents and consumables per test. Typical mistakes are buying an analyser for which no reagents are registered in the country, or a system without service support and staff training. Such a system quickly becomes expensive idle equipment.
