Buying in China: what you need to know
China makes most of the world’s LED lighting. The largest luminaire cluster is Guzhen town in Zhongshan (Guangdong province), and nearby Shenzhen factories make LEDs, drivers and electronics. Almost every LED luminaire sold in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan under various brands passes through these clusters. The same housing can be assembled there with drivers and LEDs of completely different quality.
Luminaires from different factories look alike, but service life is determined by three things: the driver, the LEDs and the heat sink. Cheap products save on exactly these: a driver without surge protection, LEDs from an unknown maker running at high current, a thin heat sink. Such a luminaire is bright for the first few months, then quickly loses output or fails during voltage spikes, which are common in our grids. In the end, replacing luminaires at height in a workshop or on a street costs more than was saved on the purchase.
When choosing an LED lighting supplier, we look at real parameters: luminous efficacy (lm/W) from a measurement report, colour rendering index (CRI), flicker, IP and IK ratings, and the brand of driver (for example Inventronics, Moso or Taiwan’s Mean Well) and LEDs. Tier-one factories provide test reports and a warranty of 3 years or more; small assemblers provide promises in a catalogue. For outdoor use, surge protection, housing coating durability and operating temperature range also matter.
We work to the project: if there is a lighting calculation, we select luminaires to match it; if not, we help order a DIALux calculation from the factory. - We check the driver brand and model, power factor, overvoltage and surge protection, and operation across the grid voltage range.
- Photometric data
- We request photometric reports (IES/LDT) and compare luminous flux, colour temperature and CRI with the stated values. We spot-measure samples.
- Thermal design
- We assess heat sink mass and area and the LED drive current. Overheated LEDs lose output quickly.
- Housing and protection
- We check IP and IK ratings, seals, diffuser material and housing coating for outdoor conditions.
- Batch burn-in
- We ask the factory to run a burn-in on the batch and spot-check switching and flicker before packing.

Bulky cargo
Luminaires are light but bulky when packed. It pays to combine them with other cargo or ship by groupage truck.

Samples for on-site trials can be sent by air (3–7 days) before the main batch is ordered.

Uzbekistan
Luminaires and lamps subject to mandatory certification require an O‘zstandart certificate of conformity. We check by HS code.
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia (EAEU)
Luminaires generally fall under TR CU 004/2011 and TR CU 020/2011, as well as TR EAEU 037/2016 on restriction of hazardous substances. We check by HS code.
Photometric data
IES/LDT files for calculations, photometric reports and product passports — we request them from the factory before shipping.
Requirements depend on the exact HS code. We check them before purchase and include the cost of certification in the quote.

How long do Chinese LED luminaires last?
Service life depends on the driver, LEDs and heat sink, not on the country of manufacture. Luminaires from factories with test reports and a warranty of 3 years or more last a long time; cheap products without data are unpredictable.
Can I order LED luminaires under my own brand?
Yes. Most factories apply a logo to the housing and make packaging for your brand. The minimum batch for this depends on the model and the factory.
